The Story Behind the Idea

Ros Guerrero was a busy mom raising her special needs daughter when she was looking for a way to spruce up her daughter's tired, plain eyeglasses and make it a fun accessory her daughter could get excited about.

Ros outlined different ideas and quickly realized an interchangeable charm was the way to go for versatility (she wanted options to mix-and match to outfits, seasons or interests). Ros developed a working charm and had her daughter wear it to school for the first time. That day, to her delight, her daughter brought home a note from the teacher regarding all the positive attention her daughter’s charms received from the students and staff. This got Ros thinking - I might be on to something!

Ros brainstormed on a product name while she continued working to refine and expand on her prototype designs. After a few sleepless nights and several scribbled pages, the name Ficklets was born. Derived from the word “fickle” which means to “change often” came to Ros when she couldn’t decide on which charm her daughter would wear one day and kept changing it out.

She launched their business and filed patent in spring 2007; subsequently awarded patent in September 2009.

The Inspiration

Ros gives sole credit to her daughter not only for directly inspiring the idea, but also for reigniting the entrepreneurial spirit in her.

In her quest to start her own business as a young woman, Ros has dabbled in various ventures over the years, but it was by accident that she stumbled on the Ficklets idea. Since then her entrepreneurial passion has soared like never before. “I knew this was IT!” Ros declared.

Understanding early on that her daughter’s work opportunities would be limited, Ros knew she had to take it upon herself to create work opportunity for her daughter. It's one of the main reasons she went into business. It’s Ros’s hope that by nurturing her daughter to live productively, it would provide a sense of normalcy, to help her be "whole". It’s also very important to Ros that her daughter doesn’t become a burden to society and works hard so that someday Ficklets would be able to support and provide for a quality life after she’s gone.

"It's fulfilling to live a life where I am creative and productive with a purpose, and I'm grateful to my daughter for inspiring me to grow as a mom and entrepreneur.”

"Thank you for taking the time to learn more about Ficklets and how it came to be. My hope is that

Ficklets brings a smile to your child's face just as it has for my daughter."
